OpenAI, the leading AI research laboratory, has unveiled its ChatGPT and Whisper models API with enhanced accessibility to allow developers to integrate the models into various apps and products. This development is expected to facilitate an upsurge in AI integration across various industries and use cases, including social media and online grocery shopping.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Whisper models are equipped with cutting-edge language and speech-to-text capabilities, and they feature system-wide optimizations that have led to a 90% cost reduction for the ChatGPT model since December. OpenAI is passing on the cost savings to users by offering the models for 10 times cheaper than before.

The new ChatGPT API comes with continuous improvements, and developers can choose dedicated capacity for better control over the models. OpenAI has also updated and refined its terms of service to cater better to developer needs.

Snap Inc., Quizlet, Instacart, Shopify, and Speak are some of the businesses currently leveraging ChatGPT and Whisper APIs. Snap has launched “My AI” via Snapchat, offering users a personalized chatbot that provides recommendations and writes haikus for friends in a matter of seconds.

Quizlet, the global learning platform, is introducing Q-Chat, a fully-adaptive AI tutor that engages students with adaptive questions based on relevant study materials. Instacart is using the ChatGPT model alongside its own AI and product data from over 75,000 retail partners to allow customers to ask about food and get inspirational, shoppable answers.

Shopify’s consumer app, Shop, is using the ChatGPT API to power its new shopping assistant, which makes personalized recommendations when shoppers search for products. Speak, an AI-powered language learning app, uses the Whisper API to power its new AI-speaking companion product, which provides human-level accuracy for language learners.

While OpenAI’s products have seen exceptional growth and adoption, the company has admitted that it needs to prioritize the stability of its offerings. OpenAI’s engineering team’s top priority is now the stability of production use cases to ensure that AI benefits all of humanity by being a reliable service provider. OpenAI hopes that more applications will begin to apply its models as it believes they can provide “incredible opportunities and economic empowerment to everyone.”
