Apple’s highly-anticipated mixed-reality VR headset, the Reality Pro, is finally on the horizon. According to a report from Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, the company has been working on the headset since at least 2017 and is expected to ship in 2023, making it a key new product for the year.
The report suggests that Apple will unveil the Reality Pro before its Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2023, though previous delays have pushed the launch date from its original target of January 2023. Developers have already had their hands on the Reality Pro for testing and its operating system, previously known as “Borealis” within Apple, will be publicly released as xrOS.
While the Reality Pro is expected to make a big splash in the fall of 2023, previous delays leave the release date subject to change. In related news, the report also mentions that 2023’s Mac lineup will be more modest than expected, with a high-end Mac Pro model being canceled internally.
The VR industry is set to see another major shift soon, with the release of the long-awaited PS VR 2 on February 22, 2023. The arrival of the Reality Pro in 2023 is sure to bring even more excitement and innovation to the VR space.
